Ctrip Q3 2012 Financial Results : year over year net income is down by 40%

The travel service provider - hotel accommodations, airline tickets, packaged tours and corporate travel management - in China, announced its unaudited financial results for the third quarter, ended September 30, 2012. Net revenues were RMB1.17 billion (US$187 million), up 20% year-on-year. Net income attributable to Ctrip's shareholders was RMB194 million (US$31 million), down 40% year-on-year.

Air ticket booking is the primary source of revenues : RMB478 million (US$76 million), representing a 24% increase year-on-year. Then come the hotel reservation revenues : RMB457 million (US$73 million), representing an 11% increase year-on-year. Packaged-tour revenues come in third position, with RMB224 million (US$36 million), representing a 31% increase year-on-year due to the increase of leisure travel volume. Corporate travel revenues were RMB54 million (US$9 million), representing a 25% increase year-on-year.The largest increase in spending comes from Sales and marketing (+74% yoy), followed by product development (+51% yoy)

Youku Tudou partners with Sony Pictures Television

Youku Tudou Inc. , a Chinese Internet television company, signed an agreement with Sony Pictures Television to bring more than 300 new and classic Sony Pictures titles to the Youku Premium platform. The five-year Sony Pictures Television deal comes on the heels of previous Youku Tudou agreements with WB, DreamWorks, Paramount, Twentieth Century Fox, Disney, NBC Universal, and Lionsgate. The 300 titles will become available for paid on-demand viewing over the duration of the agreement. More than 3,000 film titles, including around 450 titles from Hollywood studios, will be available for viewing by the end of 2012.

Youku debuted Youku Premium in beta in late 2010, offering ad-free, high-resolution premium content on a paid on-demand and subscription-based basis. Youku updated its Youku Premium subscription system on August 23 to offer subscribers ad-free access to all videos on Youku's platform, plus 50% off on-demand film and TV viewing through Youku Premium. The VIP membership tier additionally offers unlimited viewing of films covered by monthly subscription licensing agreements. Youku Premium has approximately two million paid users. Q3 2012 : year-over-year Brand advertising revenues are up up 2% Inc, a Chinese online portal, today reported unaudited financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2012. Total revenues were US$285 million, up 23% year-over-year. Total online advertising revenues were US$113 million, up 19% year-over-year. They include revenues from brand advertising and search and others businesses for the third quarter of  2012. Brand advertising revenues for the third quarter of 2012 totaled US$78 million, up 2% year-over-year. Search and others revenues for the third quarter of 2012 were US$35 million, up 92% year-over-year.

Sogou – search engine for text, images, music, and maps - revenues were US$37 million, up 102% year-over-year. During last summer, agreed to buy back the stake Alibaba Group owned in Sogou. Online game revenues reached US$151 million, up 30% year-over-year. For the third quarter of 2012, operating expenses totaled $125 million, up 36% year-over-year.
