The Canal + Group achieved a consolidated turnover of 3.3 billion Euros in
1999 (+ 16 %) and a group net consolidated loss of 336 million Euros, as
opposed to a pro forma net loss of 28million Euros in 1998.
In its 1999 accounts, the Group included an exceptional provision of 220
million Euros, destined to renew its current fleet of digital decoders.
Canal + is going to launch, in late 2000, a new generation of terminals,
the "net-top box" , equipped with a high-speed modem, increased graphic
capabilities and calculation functions, extended memory and connections to
computer, video and audio peripherals, enabling users to combine the
interactivity of digital television and Internet services on the same high
quality television screen.
On December 31st, 1999, Canal + had 13.6 million subscribers to its
various channels which must be paid for i.e. an increase of 17 %
compared with 1998, 4 million of which were for digital services (+ 58 %).
